Priority On/Off Switch: Extension for Google Drive

Apr 14 / Steve Bunyan
Priority On/Off Switch for Google Drive makes the 'Priority' menu item switchable, so you can hide it.
Sometimes the 'Priority' item at the top of the menu in Google Drive is really useful, but sometimes it's good to have 'My Drive' at the top instead.
This extension, developed by Steve Bunyan's Digital Toolbox, allows you to hide or show the 'Priority' menu item with a simple toggle switch.

Why I wanted a Chrome Extension

I think it was back in 2019 when Google added the 'Priority' menu item to Google Drive. As you probably know, it sits proudly at the top of the Google Drive menu, above 'My Drive'.

They added 'Priority' to make it easier to find your recent files in Google Drive, which is great. It was a welcome update for many people.

Before then, 'My Drive' was always at the top and personally, I preferred it that way.

I think other people preferred it that way too, because it wasn't long before I found a Chrome extension that could remove it. The extension was called Google Drive: Remove Priority Menu, and was made by someone called Andrew Hogan.

I installed the extension and voila! Google Drive was back to the way I liked it, with 'My Drive' at the top. I was happy!

Then, sometime later and without explanation, the extension just disappeared. I couldn't find it anywhere. I emailed Andrew Hogan, but I never received a reply.

"Houston, we have a problem."

So, being someone who never settles for, "no you can't have it anymore", I decided to develop my own Chrome extension to replace it, and today I'm proud to launch it...

Priority On/Off Switch for Google Drive™
is my own, brand new Chrome extension. Now I can have 'My Drive' back at the top of Google Drive's menu again, just the way I like it!

Better still, I've made it available for you, it's 100% free and it doesn't collect any user data. I hope you like it. It's really simple to use. Just install the Chrome extension, toggle the switch to 'Hide' and you're done.

'My Drive' is magically back at the top of your Google Drive menu, and 'Priority' is hidden.

Then, if you want 'Priority' back at the top of the menu, just toggle the switch to 'Show'.

It's a really simple and effective Chrome extension and I'd like to extend my special thanks to Vinod Liyanage for all his help with this project. Vinod, you're truly exceptional, thank you.
